This unit covers the theoretical basis of conservation biology and wildlife management, linked with practical experience in field techniques.
Topics covered in lectures include: - Biodiversity assessment and conservation priorities
- Population genetics and ecology
- Managing threats to rare species from habitat loss, introduced species, overexploitation, secondary extinctions and climate change
- Sustainable use of wildlife
- Managing overabundant species
- Ecosystem and landscape perspectives.
You will learn and apply methods to estimate population size and demographic parameters, coupled with an introduction to population modelling techniques.
