KZA215 Tasmanian Fauna: Ecological & Evolutionary Studies

  • What will you learn?
    Tasmania has a distinctive fauna in both Australian and world terms. You will learn about Tasmanian habitats and the faunas they support, and how they illustrate a range of ecological and evolutionary principles. Topics will include the evolution of life on land, reproduction in cold climates, life in dilute waters, Gondwanan biogeography and island endemism. The practical component will include field observations and collections, and the use and design of identification keys.
    How will the unit be taught?
    This unit runs in Semester 1 only. There will be 2x1-hr lectures and a 4-hr practical weekly. There will be a 2-day field excursion.
