The following projects could be undertaken in the research area of Conservation Biology and Wildlife Management

Key threats to eastern quolls (Honours)

Supervisors: Clare Hawkins
Eastern quoll numbers have recently declined substantially across Tasmania, though in some areas declines are much more marked than in others. What might have caused these declines? The most likely candidate is a change in rainfall, affecting food availability - if this is true, how exactly does it work?

Use of culverts by quolls and Tasmanian devils (Honours)

Supervisors: Clare Hawkins
Tasmanian devils, spotted-tailed quolls and eastern quolls are all frequently lost on the roads. When a new road is being built, is it useful to create culverts (tunnels/drains under the road)? Will animals prefer to use these, or to cross the road? What features will encourage animals to use culverts?

Den use by threatened species (Honours)

Supervisors: Clare Hawkins
Availability of dens can be a limiting factor for some species, so it is important for land managers to avoid disturbing or destroying them. Read More....
