The following projects are undertaken in the research area of Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology
Arthur Clarke - Factors affecting biodiversity of invertebrate species in cave ecosystems (Masters)

Arthur Clarke
| |
An examination of the factors affecting the biodiversity and distribution of invertebrate species in cave ecosystems of two separate (but nearby) karst areas in southern Tasmania (Hastings & Ida Bay). Comparison of ecosystem diversity in southern Tasmania with other temperate karst are ecosystems and varying trophic/food supply systems.

Nutritional and other physiological constraints on reproduction in the swift parrot, Lathanus discolor (Doctorate)
| |
The use of eucalypt plantations and surrounding habitat by three marsupial species in Tasmania (Doctorate)
| |
This research is investigating the use and importance of different habitats for three herbivorous marsupial species. Habitat types include native forest (rainforest and wet sclerophyll), grassland and eucalypt plantations. It also investigates the effectiveness of current poisoning (1080) methods.

Sue Baker - Edge and riparian effects on forest litter beetles (Doctorate)
Supervisors:
Alastair Richardson
Members:
Sue Baker
| |
This project will quantify the penetration distance of edge effects on litter beetles from logging coupes into mature streamside and non-streamside forest. It will also determine whether there is a distinct riparian beetle fauna. The broad focus is to assess whether streamside reserves and wildlife habitat strips are wide enough for litter beetle conservation.

Leaf litter invertebrates of riparian vegetation (Honours)
| |
A comparison is being made between the leaf litter invertebrates of riparian and upland vegetation at undisturbed and logged/burnt sites.
