Karen Richards - Systematics and habitat preferences of hydrobiid snails (Hydrobiidae, Beddomeia complex) in Tasmania (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Sarah Munks , Alastair Richardson  Members: Karen Richards
This project will investigate the genetic variation within the Beddomeia complex using mtDNA analyses; variation in allozymes between restricted populations of Beddomeia within two catchments and investigate the relationship with habitat type.

Todd Chaudry - The effects of fire on the avifauna of buttongrass moorlands in the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area (Masters)

Supervisors: Alastair Richardson  Members: Todd Chaudhry
A replicated space-for-time study has been established (which includes a total of 27 sites ranging from 0->40 years since fire within two study locations in the World Heritage Area) in order to determine the effects of time-since-fire on avifauna biodiversity and also to determine the post-fire seral stages that provide habitat for the three resident species.

Jo McEvoy - The influence of personality: the causes, development and consequences of behavioural phenotypes in dusky antechinus (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Erik Wapstra , Susan (Sue) Jones  Members: Jo McEvoy
The study of consistent individual variation in behaviour as a key factor in evolutionary and ecological research is a fairly new field (although the idea itself can be traced to Darwins' time). I aim to investigate how individual behavioural phenotypes (conceptually analogous to personality in humans) develop and are maintained in antechinus, the hormonal basis of types and ultimately the fitness Read More....

Andrew Legault - Spatial Ecology and Conservation of Parrots in New Caledonia (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Susan (Sue) Jones , Alastair Richardson  Members: Andrew Legault

This study aims to examine the spatial ecology of parrots in mainland New Caledonia, with particular emphasis on New Caledonian Parakeets and Horned Parakeets. Various aspects of parrot ecology will be covered, including habitat selection at multiple scales, group sizes, activity patterns, and feeding zones. Read More....

Chloé D. Cadby – Maternal effects in a viviparous lizard with complex placenta (Niveoscincus ocellatus): stress, nutrition, basking opportunity and climate change effects. (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Susan (Sue) Jones , Erik Wapstra  Members: Chloe D Cadby

I am interested in improving our understanding of the adaptive nature of maternal effects by looking at maternal pre-programming to stress (high levels of corticosterone), basking opportunities and nutrition in the spotted skink (Niveoscincus ocellatus). Read More....
