Investigating the heterotrophic ecology of headwater streams: variability in natural systems; effects of forestry harvesting on ecosystem function; and the rate of recovery following disturbance.

The influence of habitat structure on freshwater predation (Doctorate)

Predators can have a strong regulating influence on the structure of macroinvertebrate communities in freshwater systems. However, their influence may depend on the type of physical environment within which they occur. My research in aquatic plant beds of the Macquiarie River, Tasmania has shown that plant shape effects the success of fresh predator; fish eat less prey in more complex plant shapes
