Antarctic Wildlife Biology

Our primary objective is to provide sound information that will be used for the conservation and sustainable management of top predators within the Southern Ocean and Antarctic ecosystem. For example, by establishing the trends of specific populations we can provide clear recommendations for the management of these populations. Investigating the diet of these species permits a detailed understanding of potential conflicts with humans who may target the same species for commercial exploitation (e.g., fisheries). We also investigate the regions where these species accumulate their food, and in so doing we can provide sound advice for administrators aiming to reduce potential conflict with human industry.

"No one has more expertise on loving nature than the professional naturalist or manager who has spent his or her career (or lifetime) studying and admiring plants and animals."

- M. E. Soulé, 1991 (Conservation Biology, vol. 5, p. 255)
