Research Interests
My primary research interests are in the biology of marine mammals and seabirds, particularly with respect to Antarctic and sub-antarctic ecosystems. This research encompasses a variety of disciplines including energetics and metabolism, population dynamics and socio-ecology. I am currently running several major programmes including foraging ecology of Antarctic seals, biology of sub-antarctic seabirds (primarily penguins), cetacean studies in Tasmanian waters and ecology and management of Australian seals and seabirds. Mark Hindell is also the director of the School of Zoology's Antarctic Wildlife Research Unit .
Research Areas:Teaching
I contribute to teaching at levels. I teach Quantitative Methods to 1st year Biology, Ecology to 2nd year Zoology, Conservation Biology in the 3d year Fisheries Wildlife Management Unit, and I am Unit coordinator for the 3d year Antarctic Ecology Unit. I also supervise a number of honours students each year.
