I am a graduate of the University of London where I taught before coming to Hobart in 1977. As well as my duties in the School, I am currently the Associate Dean (Teaching & Learning) of the Faculty of Science & Engineering. I chair the State Government's Animal Welfare Advisory Committee.
Research Interests
My research areas are fish ecology, population genetics and phylogeny. I am particularly interested in the ecology and evolution of the galaxiid fishes. Tasmania is especially well placed for research into this group of freshwater fishes with nearly half of the species in the family being found here, including many endemics.
Students in my research group are examining the ecology and phylogeny of a range of aquatic taxa including abalone, rays, trout and fur seals.
Research Areas:Teaching
I teach cell biology in first year units and freshwater ecology, fisheries management and the application of molecular techniques to evolutionary studies at the third year level.
