Bruno Cayoun

Doctor of Psychology (Clinical)

Bruno Cayoun Bruno completed his Bachelor of Art with first class Honours at the University of Tasmania in 2000, where he was awarded the Australian Psychological Society Prize in Psychology for first place at the end of an APS accredited 4 year program. He also graduated with a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology at UTAS in 2008. Under the supervision of Professor Jeff Summers and Associate Professor Clive Skilbeck, his research investigated the dysfunction of attentional systems and the human capacity for attentional and inhibitory control (two essential mechanisms in mindfulness training) in children with ADHD. Since 1989, Bruno has practised Mindfulness meditation and undergone intensive training in Mindfulness centres in various countries (France, Nepal, India, and Australia), including advanced training courses. He has developed a model that integrates mindfulness skills training with the principles of traditional Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Mindfulness-integrated Cognitive Behaviour Therapy or MiCBT). This integrative approach is currently used worldwide as a crisis intervention and relapse prevention method, demonstrating advantages over traditional cognitive perspectives across a range of chronic psychopathologies including Bipolar Affective Disorder, PTSD, GAD, Panic Disorder, alcohol abuse, and Borderline Personality Disorder. Bruno has been running a successful private practice using MiCBT as the predominant therapy approach and will continue his links with the School in research.
