My teaching and research are concerned with cognitive processes. They include the investigation of behavioural and electrophysiological correlates of brain and behaviour and the investigation of word recognition and reading processes in both normal readers and developmentally dyslexic readers.

Research Interests

I investigate the effects of sex, alcohol, minor tranquillisers and other drugs on the processes thought to be involved in driving and on other cognitive and behavioural processes such as memory, reaction time, and resource allocation. I also investigate, using event-related potentials and behavioural measures, pre-attentive processing, odour processing, and word recognition processes. I also investigate the strategic use of orthographic and phonological processes when recognising words, the differences in word recognition between dyslexic children, poor adult decoders, bilingual and multi-lingual readers, and normal adult and child readers.

Research Areas:

Teaching

I teach in the areas of cognition and memory. Courses I conduct look at memory functions and processes, at cognitive processes including attention, reading, and word recognition across different populations and at the electrophysiological and behavioural indices of these processes.
