POSITIONS VACANT

Expressions of interest are invited for sessional teaching positions in the School of Psychology for 2010. The School teaches undergraduate and honours programs in Psychology on the Sandy Bay campus in Hobart and on the Newnham campus in Launceston. Postgraduate programs in Counselling and Clinical Psychology are taught on the Sandy Bay campus only.

Opportunities for sessional teaching are available in a range of units in 2010 as indicated below:

Undergraduate and honours programs

•  Research Methods (second year) lectures and prac classes – Launceston campus, semester 1

•  Research Design and Ethics (fourth year) prac classes – Launceston campus, semester 1

•  Clinical Psychology lectures and prac classes – Hobart campus, semester 2

•  First year prac classes – Hobart and Launceston campuses, semesters 1 and 2

Postgraduate counselling program

•  Counselling Skills seminars and workshops – Hobart campus , semester 1

•  Ethics and Professional Practice seminars and workshops – Hobart campus , semester 1

•  Adjustment to Change seminars and workshops – Hobart campus , semester 2

•  Family and Couple Counselling seminars – Hobart campus , semester 2

Postgraduate clinical psychology program

•  Ethics and Professional Practice seminars – Hobart campus , semesters 1 and 2

Eligibility

The minimum requirement for appointment is an Honours degree in Psychology and applicants should also have relevant academic and/or professional experience.

Times

Face-to-face classes are conducted on weekdays and 2-day (Fri-Sat) postgraduate counselling workshops some weekends. After hours activities may include marking and teaching preparation.

Mandatory training program`

Unless granted an exemption by the Head of School, casual appointees are required to undertake a mandatory training program with attendance being paid at the “other required academic activity” rate in accordance with the Academic Staff Agreement 2005-2008.

Appointment

Casual teaching staff are appointed for a 6 or 12 month period to cover the academic semesters. Suitably qualified applicants with an interest in teaching two or more units will be considered for a fractional teaching-only contract appointment.

The major relevant descriptors for casual teaching are lecturing, tutoring, marking and other required academic activities. Descriptors and rates of payment for each activity can be found in the Academic Staff Agreement 2005-2008 (Section 9.4, pages 10-14). Remuneration will be based on academic qualifications and level of teaching activity will be advised at the time of offer,

Postgraduate scholarship holders should note the restrictions on employment that form part of the scholarship conditions and that prior approval from your supervisor must be sought before entering into any teaching commitment.

Applicants should also include a current CV with their expression of interest. Postgraduate students are advised to consult with the supervisors prior to submitting an application.
