The late Professor Newton Barber was the first Professor of Botany at the University of Tasmania. Two of his main interests were ecological genetics of eucalypts and developmental genetics of peas. These are still among the most active areas of research in the School today. The School of Plant Science is offering up to four Barber Scholarships at $4000 each for students undertaking Honours in Plant Science.
The late Professor Bill Jackson was a highly respected leader, researcher and teacher in the School of Plant Science for over fifty years. He endowed this scholarship to encourage talented students to continue their work in the field of Plant Science at the highest level. The Bill Jackson Scholarship is valued at $7500 and will be awarded to a student of outstanding ability who is undertaking Honours in Plant Science.
