Professor Newton Barber Scholarships


The late Professor Newton Barber was the first Professor of Botany at the University of Tasmania. Two of his main interests were ecological genetics of eucalypts and developmental genetics of peas. These are still among the most active areas of research in the School today.

The School of Plant Science is offering up to four Barber Scholarships at $4000 each for students undertaking Honours in Plant Science.


Professor Bill Jackson Scholarship


The late Professor Bill Jackson was a highly respected leader, researcher and teacher in the School of Plant Science for over fifty years. He endowed this scholarship to encourage talented students to continue their work in the field of Plant Science at the highest level.

The Bill Jackson Scholarship is valued at $7500 and will be awarded to a student of outstanding ability who is undertaking Honours in Plant Science


CRC for Forestry Scholarships

The CRC for Forestry has four top-up postgraduate scholarships to be based in the School of Plant Science at the University of Tasmania, as at October 2008. The CRC also offers outstanding supervisory support from research and industry partners, high levels of project funding; support for research, skills and leadership development; and access to terrific networks across Australia and internationally.

PhD Scholarship in eucalypt genetics

An Australian Postgraduate Award Industry (APAI) Scholarship ($25,556 full time) is available to study the genetic control of survival and growth of Australia’s major plantation eucalypt, Eucalyptus globulus, in traditional and water-limited environments.
