Establishing a historic baseline of Tasmania’s marine resources

Overview

Tasmania is an Island State with a rich maritime history including both commercial and recreational fishing. Over the last hundred years there has been a substantial change in the dynamics of Tasmania’s fisheries, particularly off the East Coast, although documentation of these changes is negligible. However, there are sources of oral and written observations recorded in the minds and personal logbooks of fishers who have developed an intimate relationship with the sea.
