Irina Gan

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

irina Irina commenced her MSc with IASOS in March 2005 and converted to PhD in 2006. Her supervisors are Dr Julia Jabour (IASOS) and Assoc. Prof. Marcus Haward (School of Government/IASOS).

Irina's project is Soviet interest in the Antarctic prior to the Antarctic Treaty - why and how did the Soviets come to the Treaty?

Her thesis will be based on records from Moscow and Saint Petersburg, other Russian sources and material from the National Archives in Canberra. She will be writing mainly about Soviet Antarctic plans and accomplishments in 1930 -1961, as well as earlier expeditions and events, key figures and their role in Soviet Antarctic endeavours.
