Research Interests

I prefer research where results will assist better environmental management decisions. I am best known for my expertise on Pacific Island mangroves. Other areas include coastal environmental resource management, coastal biogeomorphology, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction, coastal environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring systems and global environmental change. Countries of Research Experience include Australia (projects in Queensland, NT, WA, NSW, SA and Tas), Indonesia (Irian Jaya), Papua New Guinea, Federated States of Micronesia, Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands, Maldives, Cayman Islands, Bermuda.

Teaching

My teaching is in environmental science and geomorphological processes. I like to use examples of environmental problems in Tasmania, and assist students to make assessments as though they were employed as geomorphologists or consultants. I hold a Graduate Certificate of Education (Tertiary Teaching) from James Cook University (2000).
