Dr Kriwoken is on the Editorial Board of Polar Record and the Antarctic & Southern Ocean Law and Policy Occasional Papers, University of Tasmania. He is the past chair the Marine, Coast and Estuarine Committee of the Tasmanian State of the Environment Report, a member of the Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Advisory Council, a Member of the World Commission on Protected Areas (IUCN) and a member of the Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand.
Lorne is also active in environmental consulting. Past clients have included: Hydro Tasmania, Environment Australia, CSIRO, Sinclair Knight & Mertz, United Nations Development Program, Marine Expeditions Inc., Quark Expeditions, Institute of Antarctic and Southern Ocean Studies, Adventure Network International and Parks Canada.


Research Interests

Lorne has research interests in ocean policy and law, marine protected areas, World Heritage Areas, sustainable Antarctic tourism, environmental impact assessment and waste management. He has published in international and national journals including Marine Policy, Ocean and Coastal Management, Polar Record, Australian Journal of Environmental Management, Maritime Studies, Impact Assessment & Project Appraisal, Waste Management and Research and Austral Ecology.

Teaching

Lorne teaches wilderness and natural area management and environmental impact assessment. He is currently (co)supervising 15 PhD, Masters and Honours candidates from a range of disciplines. Lorne also teaches the wilderness and natural area management as a study abroad unit to overseas undergraduate students. Lorne was awarded a University of Tasmania Teaching Merit Award in 1999 and 2003.
