Aidan is a lecturer in Human Geography and Environmental Studies. He joined the school in 2003 after 12 years studying and teaching at Murdoch University. He is a registered member of the Institute of Australian Geographers, a member of the UTas Academic Senate and co-convenor of the newly formed UTas Nature Culture Network, as well as a range of other professional bodies.


Community Engagement

Aidan is a member of the Board of Management of Sustainable Living Tasmania (Tasmanian Environment Centre) and associated bodies including the Environment Challenge Website Reference Group, the Gardens for Wildlife Working Group and the Dick Jones Memorial Lecture Committee.


Research Interests

Aidan's research interests range from the philosophical to the practical and centre on the intersections of questions of nature, technology and sustainability in the context of issues to do with environmentalism, environmental management, social development and everyday life. He is currently undertaking a qualitative study of urban experience of nature within Australian environmental social movements.

Teaching

Aidan has a passion for teaching and is a currently Chair of the school's Teaching and Learning Committee. He has published on issues of life-long learning and educational philosophy. His main teaching focus at the moment is introducing first year students to the human geography of global development and environment issues.
