I coordinate the Spatial Information Science group, within the School of Geography and Environmental Studies and am degree coordinator for the Bachelor of Surveying and Spatial Sciences.
Community Engagement
I am the University's representative on the Tasmanian Spatial Information Council, a member of the Tasmanian Land Surveyors Accreditation Board; and a member of the Tasmanian regional committee of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.
Research Interests
My research concentrates on digital photogrammetry and airborn laser scanning, particularly their application to resource inventory. I lead a forest inventory research group which is investigating airborne remote sensing techniques for measuring tree height and stocking in plantation forests and the integration of these data into strategic and operational inventories.
I also contribute photogrammetric expertise to several projects researching fisheries resources and fish behaviour. These require photogrammetric methods of measuring animal aggregation behaviour, including underwater systems to measure the schooling characteristics of commercial fisheries.
Teaching
I teach introductory and advanced units in photogrammetry to students in the Bachelor of Surveying and Spatial Science. I also teach service units in surveying to students enrolled in engineering and science. I coordinate the 4th year land-surveying stream and contribute to the teaching of first year geomatics and environmental remote sensing.
I am a member of the School's teaching and learning committee, and am involved with several teaching and learning initiatives within the School and Faculty.
