Geotechnical Engineering Degree

To meet the future needs of industry, in partnership with Coffey Mining, the School will offer a new Bachelor of Engineering degree in Geotechnical Engineering.

Students can complete this full degree at UTAS with units in

  • Mining Methods
  • Mining Geomechanics
  • Ground Control Systems and
  • Mining Design Project
in the third and fourth year being delivered by staff from Coffey Mining giving these units a professional industry-based focus with an emphasis on stability, risk analysis and mine safety.

UTAS also has an articulated program available which allows students to complete the first two years of Geotechnical Engineering at UTAS and then transfer to UNSW to complete the final two years of their four year program in Mining Engineering. This UNSW program includes aspects of mine safety.

Students enrolling in the new UTAS Bachelor of Engineering degree in Geotechnical Engineering, and students enrolling in the articulated program with UNSW may be eligible for The Larry Knight Scholarship.
