 This is a course that builds on the material presented in KEA230 Introduction to Geophysics and Computing. It aims to provide a thorough understanding of the theory, principles and practice of exploration geophysics. Course material is presented with an emphasis on the practical aspects of each topic. Mathematical details are presented where they provide an important insight into a physical phenomena or technique.
Topics covered include; potential fields (magnetics and gravity), seismic theory, seismic reflection, electrical and electromagnetic methods.
This course is held in first semester and includes 26 lectures – two per week
A total of 13 three hour practicals will be held – one per week
Excursion
An excursion of 5 or 6 days duration is usually held in late June or early July. Dates will be confirmed during the first few weeks of the semester.
