KEA208 Earth's materials and interior

Enables students to recognise and interpret Earth materials and their history. This course is aimed at students with a professional interest in the earth. Studies concentrate on the rock types found on the Earth's surface, and on the internal structure of the earth as defined using geophysics. Lectures cover aspects of mineralogy, the classification and origin of sedimentary rocks, an introduction to igneous rocks, and global geophysics. Laboratory work includes mineralogy, sedimentology, igneous petrology and volcanology. Field work enables students to recognise and interpret rocks and structures in the field.
