Geology of Tasmania

Contact: Ron.Berry@utas.edu.au
The School actively conducts research into all aspects of Tasmanian geology

Environmental geology

Contact: David.Cooke@utas.edu.au
Environmental geology research wihin the School is focussed in two main areas, geochemistry and hydrogeology. Recent Honours and Postgraduate research projects within the school have dealt with Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) and Acid Rock Drainage (ARD), dryland salinity, and groundwater contamination near waste disposal sites

Exploration and environmental geophysics

Contact: Michael.Roach@utas.edu.au
Our geophysics program has an emphasis on potential field, electromagnetic and electrical methods and petrophysical studies.

Igneous petrology and geochemistry

Contact: Tony.Crawford@utas.edu.au
Our research emphasis is on the tectono-magmatic evolution of Western Pacific-type arc-backarc settings, the oceanic crust, and ophiolites in foldbelts. Applications of host rock lithogeochemistry and affinities to exploration for volcanic-related ore deposits.

Structural and metamorphic studies

Contact: Ron.Berry@utas.edu.au
We are particularly interested in eastern Australia and South East Asia, with a focus on the tectonic development of these regions.
