Career Summary
Dr Anya Reading received a B.Sc. (Hons) in Geophysics from the University of Edinburgh, UK, and was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of Leeds, UK, for research on subduction zone structure in New Zealand. Following 5 years' in marine and land-based geophysics with British Antarctic Survey, she joined University of Edinburgh as a Lecturer in 1998. In 2000, she moved to Australia, taking up a Research Fellowship at ANU. Anya now holds a joint appointment as Senior Lecturer in Geophysics at UTAS School of Earth Sciences and CODES.
Research Interests
Anya specialises in the finding the structure of the crust and uppermost mantle, by geophysical means, in remote and challenging environments. Recent field projects include a seismic investigation of the Pilbara Craton and Capricorn orogen in West Australia and a multi-year field program aimed at understanding tectonic structure and evolution in the southern hemisphere continents.
She also applies computational geophysical to improving inverse methods in geophysics and data inference in quantative geological problems. She extends her experience in a wide range of Earth Science applications to the development of field and computational techniques in applied and environmental geophysics.
