Career Summary

Tony started his career as an underground sampler and mine geologist on the Golden Mile in Kalgoorlie. He then spent 18 years in the mining industry, working at both junior and senior levels in and around underground base metal and gold mines, in production, resource definition, exploration, heritage assessment, environmental and research roles. Tony was a key part of a small team that reinterpreted and modelled the geology and resource potential of the formerly abandoned North Mine at Broken Hill and has continued to work on the structure and exploration potential of the northeastern end of the Broken Hill mining field. Most recently, Tony spent a year teaching at the WA School of Mines in Kalgoorlie. Tony completed his PhD on the Broken Hill orebodies at UTAS in 2004.

Research Interests

Tony's main research interest is the structural evolution of the Broken Hill type Pb-Zn-Ag deposits.
Tony is also interested in the lithostructural architecture and exploration potential of the Zeehan Ag-Pb-Zn (Sn) and Mt Farrell Ag-Pb fields in western Tasmania. He has also completed a structural reintepretation of the Hercules VHMS deposit for OZ Minerals.
Tony is working closely with mine geologists in the structural modelling of the complexly deformed Savage River magnetite deposits in NW Tasmania. This project is being supported by Grange Resources Ltd.
Tony is active in the field of industrial archaeology, particularly the recording and interpretation of 19th and early 20th Century mine sites.
