Career Summary
Professor Tony Crawford received his BSc (Hons) and PhD (1983) from the University of Melbourne. Following post-doctoral research in Italy, he held an ARC QEII post-doctoral fellowship at UTAS before taking on the role of Supervising Scientist of the Ocean Drilling Program in Australia between 1989 and 1992. From 1992-1997, he held an ARC Senior Fellowship at UTAS, and joined the lecturing staff there in 1997. Tony was co-recipient of the 2003 Stillwell Award, and was the President of the Geological Society of Australia from from 2004-2006.
Research Interests
Tony Crawford’s major research interests focus on the relationships between magmatism and tectonics in modern settings, particu-larly West Pacific-type subduction-related settings, and the interpretation of the tectonic significance of magmatic rocks in fold belts. He also has a long involvement in documenting the geology of the seafloors around Australia, and has participated in eight marine geoscience cruises in the region, one as chief scientist.
