Career Summary
David Cooke is an Associate Professor in hydrothermal geochemistry at CODES. He received his BSc (Hons) from LaTrobe University (1985), and a PhD from Monash University (1991). After joining CODES as a postdoctoral research fellow in 1991, David was appointed to a lecturing position at UTAS in 1995. David is currently a member of the editorial board for Economic Geology, and has previously served as an active member of several committees for the Society of Economic Geologists and the Geological Society of Australia.
Research Interests
David has been actively researching fluid evolution and ore formation throughout his career. Most emphasis has been placed on understanding the origins and environments of formation for porphyry and epithermal deposits of the circum-Pacific, and also on stratiform sediment-hosted Pb-Zn deposits of northern Australia. Techniques employed include chemical modelling, fluid inclusion and isotopic studies, built on a framework on rigourous and detailed field data collection. In Tasmania, David and his students have been actively researching the impacts of acid drainage from sulfide mining operations.
