Choose:   Current Projects

The following projects are undertaken in the research area of Multi-disciplinary research

T. Pinkiewicz (PhD) - Computational Techniques for Automated Tracking and Analysis of Fish Movement in a Controlled Aquatic Environment (Doctorate)

Supervisors: John Purser, Ray Williams  Members: Tomasz Pinkiewicz
This project will determine behavioural patterns of fish. Currently this process is manual, therefore tedious and subjective. The objective is to develop algorithms that will identify individual fish, detect their movement patterns and determine their behaviour. The project will also look at movement patterns and behaviours exhibited by groups of fish without identifying individuals.

D. Visentin (PhD) - Rotating Magnetic Field Drive in Confined Plasmas (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Larry Forbes, Waheed Hugrass  Members: Denis Visentin
The PhD project investigates the possibility of using two counter-RMFs to drive current for longer timescales, by allowing the electrons to be driven by one RMF, and the ions by a second RMF. Read More....

M. Horton (PhD) - Improved Multiple Prediction Combination In Machine Learning for Image Classification (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Mike Cameron-Jones , Ray Williams  Members: Michael Horton
This image classification problem involves counting and locating fish from pictures taken inside fish farm tanks. Compared to some computer vision problems, the environment is simple, but the contrast is often poor and each picture may contain dozens of fish. An existing boosted classifier algorithm for face detection is being adjusted to better suit the problem of fish detection.

I. Bindoff (PhD) - Development of an Intelligent Medication Review System to Assist Quality Service (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Byeong-Ho Kang  Members: Ivan Bindoff
The synopsis for this project is yet to be advised.

R. Fearn (PhD) - Guided Techniques for Image Segmentation (Doctorate)

Supervisors: Mike Cameron-Jones , Ray Williams  Members: Robert Fearn
The synopsis for this project is not yet advised.
