Registered to supervise postgraduate research candidates (PhD and Master by research).
Research Interests
My current research interests focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence techniques to support the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) within the Marine Science field. This involves work on a number of related research projects including: - the automated analysis of underwater video; to detect and identify marine animals, to monitor marine habitats and to extract video segments depicting interesting events.
- the development of vision sensing capabilities for remotely-operated and fully-automated underwater vehicles.
- the development of computational techniques to analyse data produced by underwater acoustic systems, such as marine animal trackers and multi-beam sonar.
- the automated analysis of remotely sensed images for Southern Ocean, sub-Antarctic and Antarctic applications.
Research Areas:Teaching
I teach the Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge-Based Systems units in the undergraduate Bachelor of Computing degree, and an Intelligent Software Agents unit in the Bachelor of Computing (Honours) and Master of Computing degrees.
