Bryce Lockhart-Gillet

PhD (General)

Bryce Lockhart-Gillett

I grew up in the north of the state and attended Hellyer College. I had some fantastic teachers there who really captivated my interest in mathematics and the pure sciences. I came to Hobart in 2001 to do a Bachelor of Science degree, I was unsure what my major would be until I enrolled in third year after completing a summer vacation scholarship with ACROSS to do a major in Chemistry.

I was awarded a Summer Research Scholarship at the ANU in the summer following my degree which lead to an offer of doing Honours there, however I chose to stay in Tasmania and did Honours in Chemistry in 2004.

During my honours I collaborated with some people at the ANU and was lucky enough to be offered a PhD position to continue in that area. However I again elected to stay within the School of Chemistry at Utas and am now currently completing a PhD under the supervision of Michael Gardiner. I am investigating mixed anion lithium complexes, as they serve as model compounds for mixed metal (or superbase) systems.
