Project architect, Morrison and Breytenbach Architects, Hobart
Bachelor of Architecture "I graduated from UTAS in 2003 and spent five months volunteering with the United Nations in India. For the rest of 2004 I lived in Edinburgh and worked as a graduate architect for RMJM - a worldwide multidisciplinary practice. Back in Tasmania I worked for a small firm in Burnie for 18 months and gained a lot of design experience before relocating to Hobart. In the three years with JAWSARCHITECTS I worked on a range of projects and gained experience with taking projects from concept to completion. This gave me the experience and knowledge to sit my exams for registration in May this year. I am now working with Morrison and Breytenbach Architects in Hobart as a project architect on a variety of projects including residential and educational." - Hugh Maguire Visit Morrison & Breytenbach Architects website

| | Jad Silvester
Director, Silvester Fuller, Sydney
Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture) - University of Tasmania Bachelor of Architecture with First Class Honours - University of Technology, Sydney Jad first studied at the University of Tasmania, graduating with a Bachelor of Environmental Design, before completing his architectural education at the University of Technology Sydney. Studying at UTAS led Jad to a position in Sydney with Renzo Piano, working on the Lend Lease developed Aurora Place project. This early experience presented the opportunity to join the Italy studio where Jad worked in the design team on two museum projects, which have since been constructed in San Francisco and Atlanta.
2004 marked an important shift, taking up a position as Project Architect with Herzog & de Meuron in Basel, Switzerland. During this time Jad led project teams on the concept and schematic design for a number of significant international projects. His role necessitated global travel and consequently, understanding and adapting quickly to local conditions whilst retaining a "fresh eyes" approach to each location. It was at Herzog & de Meuron that Jad reaffirmed his design sensibilities, having first developed a sense for process based architecture at UTAS.
In 2008 Jad returned to Sydney and established his own practice with partner Penny Fuller. Since this time the studio has developed a number of concepts for a wide range of project types and is currently in the process of realising these concepts. In parallel to active practice Jad teaches architectural design at the University of Sydney.
Jad recalls his time at UTAS with particular note to the diversity of teaching methods, which at an early time his architectural career informed a specific approach to design. An approach that explores options and multiple solutions upon which a process of testing and experimentation deliver progressive, rich, efficient and unique projects. Visit Silvester Fuller website

| Josh Upston
Graduate Architect, Freeformdesigns, Launceston
Bachelor of Environmental Design (Architecture) and Master of Architecture
"I graduated from UTAS in 2008. Back in 2005 I did some work experience with Steven Varady Architecture in Sydney and then came back to Tasmania and starting working at Freeformdesigns in Launceston. I am currently still working there and undertaking residential and commercial work. Working in a smaller firm has allowed me to get designs built and has let me learn about all parts of working in an architectural practice. I would suggest getting out there early - there's nothing better than getting an idea of what happens in the real world." - Josh Upston Visit Freeformdesigns website
