Research Interests
Sheryl's PhD, Island Women: An oral history: 1910 - 1960, was an inquiry into the historical experience of women living in isolated rural areas.
Other research interests include the history of nursing and health, the health of women and children, and the history of polio.
In 2006, Sheryl completed an oral history project examining the life experiences and nursing careers of women who undertook hospital based nurse training in the 1960s. The resulting book is published by the University of Tasmania and is titled Contradictory Stories: An oral history of a group of 1960s nursing students. She has also completed a history of child health nursing in Tasmania titled The Fence on the Precipice. Further details on these publications and the author can be found at the website Nursing History
