High fidelity simulation and case based learning

Launceston Campus, Building M

High fidelity lab

The manikins are integral to a project to integrate high fidelity simulation with an existing cross-curriculum redevelopment to improve the clinical competencies of undergraduate nursing students.

The umbrella project includes the integration of several key activities including:

  • the development of a WebCT Vista site that incorporates electronic, multi-media and other resources to support clinical skills teaching across the BN
  • the use of HFM for teaching and assessment
  • designing and developing authentic assessment tasks which use HFM through integrating simulated computer assisted case scenarios in the deployment of the manikins
  • investigating opportunities for a broader use of simulated patients in teaching and assessment in ways that complement the use of HFM
  • and extending the use of case based "open laboratory" learning experiences using HFM.
