Evaluation of the Get Walking Tasmania Week (GWTW) (Staff)

Project Commencement:

May 2006

Dr Stirling from the UDRH, under contract to the Premier's Physical Activity Committee (PPAC) has undertaken an evaluation of the Get Walking Tasmania Week (GWTW).

This has involved establishing and refining the goals, objectives and program logic of the GWTW program, and to refine the priorities for evaluation to assist necessary decisions due to resource limitations.

Event coordinators were surveyed in 2006 and 2007 and local organisations were assisted to gain feedback from event participants in 2007.

A key element of the evaluation has been the comprehensive evaluation plan that draws directly from the program logic and to provide capacity building for key stakeholders. Findings suggest that event coordinators are champions of physical activity and that the GWTW facilitates them to promote physical activity locally. GWTW is also likely to increase the capacity of local community groups to promote physical activity.

Dr Christine Stirling will complete the project in March 2008.
