Shipmasters Medical Course (Nursing Component) (Staff)

The project involved the provision of a series of workshops to students enrolled in the nursing component of the Shipmasters medical course at the Australian Maritime College. The project is now being co-ordinated directly with the University of Tasmania's School of Nursing and Midwifery.

The workshops combined theoretical, practical and simulated teaching sessions to prepare students in:

  • Health Assessment;
  • Wound Management (simulated);
  • Injection technique (simulated);
  • Medication management (theoretical);
  • Suturing (simulated);
  • Basic patient care including hygiene, hydration, nutrition and positioning (theoretical);
  • Case studies patient management
  • Course Structure

    The course was delivered for 14 hours over a 2 day period.
