The University Department of Rural Health Tasmania has been successful in securing funding for a statewide Aboriginal Health Summit. The staging of the health summit has been proposed in response to the acknowledged gap in the health status of Tasmanian Aboriginal and non aboriginal populations. In particular, the summit acknowledges the need to bring together Tasmanian Aboriginal communities to explore pathways for addressing this gap.
The aim of the Tasmanian Health Summit is to bring together Tasmanian Aboriginal communities with mainstream health services, educational providers and health workers to identify Tasmanian Aboriginal health issues, priorities and planning needs and a way forward to improve the health and wellbeing of the Tasmanian Aboriginal population.
A health summit planning group, with appropriate representation from the Tasmanian Aboriginal community and other relevant health and wellbeing providers, has been established to plan and develop the summit.
Participation will be by invitation.
