Master of Pharmacy (MPharm)
Raghu is currently studying the MPharm degree at the School of Pharmacy, UTas, having graduated with the MPharmSc in 2005.
I am Raghu Vennavaram and am currently studying my MPharm degree at the School of Pharmacy, University of Tasmania.
I am an international student from India and having completed my pharmacy graduation from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, I was seeking a Masters program in Australia.
I searched for courses and universities in Australia and found the University of Tasmania, which suited my needs and was economically affordable to me. Before I came here I was warned by people that Hobart is a very cold and quiet place and I would not adjust well to it. After coming over here, I found it a totally different scenario. I had a warm welcome in Hobart - it was a perfect, clean, quiet place, ideal for studies - unlike big crowded cities. People here are so friendly and well spoken, and I overcame my homesickness quickly. The School of Pharmacy is a friendly place to study, and people are patient, happy to listen to my problems and suggest solution.
The Master of Pharmaceutical Science (MPharmSc) course is an integration of coursework and research, culminating in a research thesis. Now after having completed this degree, I could say that I have learnt a lot regarding research aspects, how research programs run, safe and effective laboratory work procedures, handling equipment (HPLC, GC and LC-MS) and various extraction procedures and, of course, writing a thesis.
To sum it up, I gained more practical knowledge than I ever had. The course changed my view about education – it doesn’t have to be boring, book-oriented studies, it can be challenging and exciting! I am looking forward to my continuing studies here in the MPharm degree and furthering my research studies. I strongly believe that I will have a good future after I graduate from the University of Tasmania, with endless employment opportunities, worldwide!
