The Electron Microscopy Unit (EMU) at the Clinical School is a joint facility with the RHH's Anatomical Pathology. Recently expanded and refurbished with a Philips CM100 Transmission Electron Microscope, EMU also houses a new Lynx Automated Tissue Processor and two ultramicrotomes, plus other peripheral equipment.
EMU is staffed by two senior technical officers, Jamie Chapman and Cheryl Bolton, who have experience in a range of biological EM techniques including preparation for, and practical experience of, routine transmission and scanning EM, cryo-EM and immuno-EM.
EMU also houses a fully-operational photographic dark room and state-of-the-art digital scanning equipment for hard or digital production of electron micrographs, as well as access to a CD burner and photo-manipulation software.
