Vanilloid Research Group
 Research Overview
The group’s research centers on the pharmacology of the sensory neuron stimulant and toxin, capsaicin, and several related vanilloids, including resinferatoxin. Vanilloids and vanilloid antagonists have therapeutic implications in the treatment of pain and a variety of (currently) poorly treated disorders such as hyperactive bladder. Projects include basic studies into the regulation of vanilloid receptors in the central nervous system and peripheral tissues, the effects of vanilloid ingestion (in the form of chilli) on cardiovascular risk factors and the potential role of vanilloid receptors in immune dysfunction in dialysis patients.
