Murray holds a BSc with first class honours in Medical Science and a PhD from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia.

He is currently Senior Lecturer in Haematology, Course Coordinator of the Bachelor of Biomedical Science course in the School of Human Life Sciences, an APACE registered member of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS) and member of the Australasian Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.

Career Summary

Murray has worked as a Medical Scientist, Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Lecturer and Senior Lecturer during the last 10 years and has considerable experience of teaching, research and administration at tertiary level.

He has also contributed to a variety of University Committees, Working Parties and Professional Bodies, including the role of Chair of the New and Emerging Technologies Group of the ASTH.

Research Interests

Murray’s broad research interests are in haemostasis with a particular focus on investigating mechanisms of blood coagulation and platelet aggregation that lead to thrombosis (blood clots). He is particularly interested in how the tissue factor (TF) pathway of blood coagulation contributes to the development of thrombosis a variety of conditions, including systemic lupus erythematosus, stroke, renal disease and diabetes. Murray also has an ongoing interest in the evaluation of in vitro methods to measure TF, tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) and TF microparticles. He collaborates with research groups throughout Australia and has supervised numerous research students through Honours projects and at post-graduate level. Further details on his research can be found here.

Research Areas:

Teaching

Murray is primarily responsible for teaching haematology to Biomedical Science students and is unit coordinator for Haematology 1 (CXA231), Haematology 2 (CXA332) and Transfusion Science (CXA333), as well as teaching into Medical Laboratory Pracitce (CXA401) and Introduction to Medical Laboratory Sciences (CXA101).

He has experience in teaching both under- and post-graduate haematology to students studying Medical Science, as well as post-graduate medicine and multi-disciplinary units in Medical Laboratory Science.
