Jane holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Medical Science, a Bachelor of Biomedical Science with first class Honours, a Masters by Research in Biomedical Science and Graduate Diploma in University Learning and Teaching, all from UTas. Prior to commencing at the university, Jane spent 16 years working in the Pathology Department at the Launceston General Hospital as a Medical Scientist and 2˝ years with the Menzies Centre for Population Health Research as the Northern Research Assistant in the Tasmanian Multiple Sclerosis Study. Jane is a member of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists (AIMS).


Research Interests

Jane’s research interests for both her Honours and Masters by Research centred on the effect of diet on cardiovascular disease risk factors, specifically the effect of supplementing a usual Australian-type diet with canned chickpeas. Currently she is a member of a research group investigating environmental and dietary factors that may affect balance and thus falls, in older people.

Teaching

Jane is part of a multi-member team teaching human bioscience and anatomy to undergraduate science and nursing students and teaches into a number of other health and bioscience units. She is also part of a team with extensive professional experience responsible for the Biomedical Science program. She is co-ordinator for the professional placement units CXA412 & CXA425
