Lesley holds a B.Ed (Adult) in Community Education with a sub-major in Managment from the University of Technology, Sydney, a M.Ed majoring in Tertiary Teaching and a Masters by Research from the University of Tasmania.
Career Summary
In her early career Lesley worked in the dental area in private and public practice. She used her knowledge in this area to change to Health Promotion. Lesley worked in the Southern Sydney Health Service firstly as a Dental Health Promotion Project Officer and later as the Area Health Promotion Coordinator. She has taught Health promotion to students at the Westfield Hospital and the University of NSW, to staff at St. George teaching hospital and Sutherland Hospital and various community centres in the region. She joined the University of Tasmania as a lecturer in 1994
Research Interests
Lesley's research is mainly in teaching and learning, life-long learning, community learning and informal teaching. Social capital underpins her research, where the notions of heterophilous contacs are used for the exchange of new information, knowledge and skills and hemophilaus relationships are used for social support and well being.

Teaching
Prior to her appointment to Human Life Sciences, Lesley taught in the Faculty of Education, University of Tasmania for 10 years, University of NSW,TAFE and various teaching hospitals and community centres.
Lesley is a certified Web CT trainer (Vancouver, Canada) and has received a University Teaching Excellence Award from the Vice-chancellor University of Tasmania in 1999 and two Teaching Merit Awards (1996 and 2001).
