Susan qualified in Medical Technology at the SAIT/Adelaide University and has worked in diagnosis, administration, teaching and research in all areas of diagnostic medical pathology. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Medical Scientists, has a BA in General Studies (Philosophy, History & Languages), post graduate qualifications including a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning at University, TAFE qualifications in Information Technology & Multimedia and Design, and is currently undertaking a Masters by Research in Education. Susan has a keen interest in aviation, has a pilot license and has flown in both Australia and Papua New Guinea.


Research Interests

Susan spent 5 years in Papua New Guinea working in various diagnostic and research facilities involved in public health, epidemiological research and diagnosis of parasitic and other microbiological diseases.

Together with Tracy Douglas and Kevin Lyall, Susan is part of the team producing an audiovisual resource for students undertaking studies in cell biology. Susan and Tracy also have a Teaching and Learning Grant to produce and evaluate an interactive Game Based Digital Resource to allow connection of foundation knowledge with subsequent unit material.

Susan has written and chaired sessions at Conferences on Diversity and on First Year at University. She has produced several papers for publication.

Teaching

Susan has been involved in undergraduate teaching in all its facets including development of units, presentation of lectures and guest speaking at career and skills seminars.

She is the unit coordinator for CXA176 Microbiology and Health, CXA161 Introduction to Human Biology and CXA302 Environmental Health, Infection Control and Regulation, and was involved in the coordination of the BBiomedSc Twinning Program with KDU College, Malaysia until its completion in 2007. Her areas of particular interest in Microbiology include Parasitology and Mycology.
