The following projects are undertaken in the research area of Cancer and Immunology
Proteomic analysis of known prognostic factors in breast cancer (Doctorate)
|
|
Members:
Kylie Roberts
| |
Proteomics uses 2 dimensional gel eletrophoresis in combination with computer based analysis. This project is using proteomics to identify known prognostic markers in breast cancer tissue. This is part of a larger project to identify novel prognostic or diagnostic factors which may have therapuetic application.

Mobilization of human haematopoietic stem cells (Doctorate)
|
|
Supervisors:
David Kilpatrick,
Ray Lowenthal,
Scott Ragg,
Gregory Mark Woods
|
Transplantation of hematopoietic progenitor stem cells (HPCs) is an important treatment modality for a variety of neoplastic diseases. Langerhans cells and dermal dendritic cells are specialized cells that form a network within the epidermis and dermis of our skin. They constantly survey the surrounding environment for the presence of foreign substances, such as invading organisms. When they encounter these substances they are able to present it to cells within the lymph nodes and bring about a specific and targeted immune respon
