Research Interests
Research Interests
Mr Davson-Galle is an arts faculty trained philosopher. His research interests in philosophy of science
culminated in a monograph on relativism about truth and progressed to current research interests on the
faults of constructivist thinking about curricula and on the role of philosophy of science as a possible
component of secondary school science curricula. This connects with a broader interest in the role of
philosophy generally in school curricula and, in particular with the Community of Inquiry pedagogical and
curricular approach introduced by the so-called Philosophy for Children movement of the last thirty years.
(Apart from publishing in the field, Mr Davson-Galle was a founding editorial board member of the, now
defunct, journal Critical & Creative Thinking and is accredited and experienced in running workshops for
teachers on philosophy in schools).
Another research interest has been reasoning and this, combined with a research interest in ethics (he was
for many years a referee on utilitarian theories of ethics for The Australasian Journal of Philosophy and
published widely in the area) and an undergraduate teaching focus on applied ethical issues arising in
education, has led to another monograph on extended reasoning about such issues (see above).
Mr Davson-Galle is on the editorial boards of the international research journals: Educational Philosophy
and Theory, Journal of Educational Enquiry and Science and Education and has acted as occasional referee for
Journal of Philosophy of Education and Philosophical Papers.
