Congratulations to Dean Cooley who is named as an Associate Investigator on a major new NHMRC Partnership Grant success focusing on workplace health. The project ‘Improving health and wellbeing in the Tasmanian State Service workforce’ has been developed by a collaborative team led by Associate Professor Alison Venn (Menzies Research Institute) and will bring $856,250 to the University, allocated across the Menzies Research Institute, School of Management and School of Psychology. Dean will be involved in PhD student supervision associated with the project, which will investigate:

·         Does workplace health promotion change health risk behaviours in routine (non-trial) settings?

·         To what extent does workplace health promotion reach and influence employees with unfavourable health risk behaviours?

·         What is the “business case” in Australia for investment by government, employers and employees in workplace health promotion? Are the intervention costs offset by measurable gains in work productivity, reduced absenteeism, and reduced staff turnover?
