The groups main skills are:
Support of PCs as instrument controllers
Connection of instruments to LAN
General PC and Mac desktop support
Scientific software design and development
Embedded software development usually in conjunction with the electronics workshop
Although the primary concerns of the group is to provide support to the CSL, the group also available to provide IT support for other Schools within the University.
Caesar Bruno provides the majority of frontline support for the CSL desktops and controller units. Caesar's responsibilities involve the following support services: providing desktop support to end users in the CSL and Genetics Lab, maintaining the CSL web site, producing internal publications, network administration and integrity, and administering CSL servers. Desktop support covers hardware and software troubleshooting on both PC and Macintosh platforms. Caesar is also the main contact for software updates and matters concerning the installation and purchase of site licence software for all supported platforms.
Support tasks involving high-level Unix services are referred to Caesar who is responsible for escalating specialist Unix support tasks to John McKirdy. John McKirdy has extensive software development experience. He provides specialist support for Unix systems and software development. The contact for this service is Mr Caesar Bruno.
