Our 400 MHz Varian “Inova Wide Bore Spectrometer is equipped to do solution, solid state, and microimaging NMR.
Solution work is undertaken using one of four probes:
- a 5 mm, 4 nucleus 31P/13C,1H/19F switchable
- a 10 mm direct broadband probe
- a 5 mm 31P to 15N Z-gradient inverse probe
- a 13C MAS nanoprobe
Solid-state work is performed on a DOTY CPMAS broadband supersonic probe. Proton micro-imaging studies are conducted using:
- 30 mm
- 20 mm or
- 5 mm birdcage coils
- or a 2.5 mm transverse solenoid coil.
Typical applications of the system include establishing structures of unknown or novel compounds studies of dynamic processes, for example:
- equilibrium and temperature dependent
- behaviour of certain molecules
- quantification of biological mixtures, such as marine oil free fatty acid group distributions
The micro-imaging equipment is generally used for the study of physiology and dynamic processes in botanical samples (eg. cellular destruction, plant response due to fungal attack and determining optimum harvesting times and techniques).
