The Central Science Laboratory (CSL) is a staffed facility for centralising major items of equipment used by more than one University Department. It also provides certain Federal organisations, State Government instrumentalities and local industrial undertakings with access to equipment and scientific services which would not be otherwise available in Tasmania.

Our 400 MHz Varian 'Inova Wide Bore Spectrometer' is equipped to do solution, solid state, and microimaging NMR. Typical applications of the system include establishing structures of unknown or novel compounds studies of dynamic processes.

Elemental Analyser

Elemental Analyser

The elemental analyser measures the amount of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur in materials by the combustion of small amounts (1-2 mg) of the unknown substance in pure oxygen and in the presence of catalysts at high temperature.
